Ruth graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on structures in 2008. She became a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Georgia in 2013. She is the Chief Engineer Bridges and Structures for Norfolk Southern Railway (NS), where she has been employed since 2008. Throughout her career at NS, her many positions have focused on design, engineering, and project, construction, and field personnel management of railroad structures. While at NS, she has been an active member of NS’ employee resource groups Young NS, NS Volunteers, and Women in Norfolk Southern (WiNS) which she chaired as well. Ruth has been an active member of American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) Committee 15 – Steel Structures for 13 years. She has served as chair of Subcommittee 5 – Ratings for six years and is currently vice-Chair of Committee 15. She has been a mentor for many years while becoming first female to serve in multiple positions at NS and her vice-chair position with AREMA Committee 15. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, baking, hiking with her dog and biking the Silver Comet Trail.
