Dr. Shushu Liu holds a Ph.D degree in Civil Engineering from Penn State with expertise in railroad geotechnics. She joined the Volpe Center in Cambridge MA after her graduation. She supports Structures and Dynamics Division with various projects related to ballast/track substructure, tie and fastening system and train track interaction. She has been developing large scale finite element models and applying the models in different track conditions to understand mechanical behavior of track components.
