Victor Babin

NICTD South Shore Line


Mr. Babin is the AREMA President and will transition to a Past President role at the conclusion of the Conference. He has over 30 years’ experience in railway engineering. Until his recent retirement, he had worked at the NICTD since 1991 and was hired as a Chief Electrical Engineer. He was in his last position since 2008 at the NICTD South Shore Line as Chief Engineering Officer. Mr. Babin was the administrator for all engineering disciplines including Maintenance-of-Way, Signal, Positive Train Control, Electrical & Communication Departments and maintained technical focus on C&S, PTC and Electrification maintenance and construction.

He holds a BS ET degree from Purdue University.

Mr. Babin has been a member of AREMA and predecessor C&S functional groups since 1991 and has progressively held all leadership positions from Subcommittee Chair through Committee Vice Chair, Chair, Functional Group Board of Director and Vice President, and Board of Governor. He is a Fellow, Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE) and is a Member, Local Committee, IRSE North American Section. He is a member of Purdue University North Engineering Technology Industrial Advisory Committee.
